Overview of Sengkang Punggol LRT Depot Expansion

Design, Construction and Completion of Sengkang Punggol Light Rapid Transit (LRT) Depot Expansion with Associated Facilities (Contract 810C).
The civil contract has been awarded to a Japanese Contractor, Sato Kogyo (S) Pte Ltd by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) Singapore on 15 February 2022 with a contract value of around $157 million.

Project Information

  • The current 3.5 hectares SPLRT depot will be expanded to 11.1 hectares which is equivalent to approximately 21 nos. of football fields
  • Situated above the North East MRT line’s (NEL) depot in Sengkang
  • Bringing in new fleet of 25 new two-car trains (with addition of 8 announced on 10 May 2023).
  • In-line with Singapore Green Plan 2030, Green Roof and PV Solar Panel will be provided at the building roof area as a contribution to the way for a low-carbon built environment
  • Expected completion in 2027
  • Expansion of Sengkang Punggol LRT (SPLRT) Depot from existing 3.5Ha to 11.1 Ha to accommodate new train stabling, maintenance workshop and associated facilities
  • Construction of Reception Tracks (RT) to facilitate launching of more trains
  • Construction of Traction Power Substations (TPSS) as additional substation to Support LRT at Sengkang and Punggol Line
  • Enhancement Works at Sengkang Town Centre (STC) to provide seperate designated platforms for the East and West loops
  • To meet the growing ridership demand for LRT services at Sengkang and Punggol.
  • To shorten the trains’ launching and withdrawal time with two new reception tracks from and to the expanded depot
  • To provide new train stabling areas, additional maintenance workshop and facilities
  • To increase the capacity of trains by progressively replacing the existing one-car trains to two-car trains
  • To boost the availability of trains by bringing in new fleet of 25 two-car trains.
  • To enhance the network of power supply system to support continuous train operation and new fleet of LRVs in the train system.
